Listening 2 U is proud to announce that they have now written their own Nurturing The Inner Child Course.

This training is held over one day.

The 1-Day Nurturing the Inner Child course is designed to equip counsellors with a comprehensive framework for understanding and integrating Inner Child work into their therapeutic practice. It begins by defining the core concept of the Inner Child, exploring its various manifestations—from the wounded and scared aspects to the playful and joyful parts. The course then delves into the rich theoretical underpinnings that inform this work, including insights from Transactional Analysis's ego states, Attachment Theory's impact on relational patterns, and the body's role in holding unprocessed trauma, as highlighted by Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal Theory. Participants gain a foundational understanding of how early experiences, including unmet needs, trauma, and conditional love, profoundly shape an individual's core beliefs about themselves, others, and the world, influencing adult relationships, self-esteem, and coping mechanisms like perfectionism and people-pleasing.

Building on this theoretical foundation, the workshop transitions into practical application, guiding counsellors through a range of effective techniques to facilitate client healing. This includes experiential exercises such as guided meditations for meeting the Inner Child and creating a safe internal space for it, alongside therapeutic tools like chair work for direct dialogue between the Adult Self and Inner Child. The course also emphasises the power of journaling and creative expression as non-verbal pathways for the Inner Child to communicate its feelings and needs. A central focus is placed on "reparenting" exercises, which empower the compassionate Adult Self to provide the Inner Child with the love, safety, and healthy boundaries it may have lacked, thereby working towards emotional integration and wholeness.

Finally, the course addresses vital ethical considerations essential for safe and responsible Inner Child work. It highlights the importance of recognizing client vulnerability when dealing with sensitive and potentially traumatic material, understanding and managing transference and countertransference dynamics, and knowing the limits of one's scope of practice, including when to refer to specialists. Emphasising the necessity of counsellor self-awareness and personal work, the course underscores the importance of preventing burnout and secondary trauma through practices like clinical supervision and self-care. The overall aim is to enable counsellors to confidently integrate this phased approach into their practice, tailoring interventions to client readiness and goals, and ultimately supporting clients in healing past wounds to achieve greater well-being and authenticity.

A certificate will be issues on completion as proof of attendance and hours.
