Suicide Awareness Training

Listening 2 U is proud to announce that they have now written their own Suicide Awareness Training.

This training is held over one day.

The 1-Day Suicide Awareness Course is a comprehensive and compassionate training designed for individuals working in educational, community, or support roles, as well as anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of suicide and prevention strategies. Throughout the day, participants will explore the complex reasons why someone may consider suicide, challenge common myths, and learn to recognise key psychological, behavioural, and verbal warning signs. The course places strong emphasis on communication—specifically how to ask direct questions about suicide using open, non-judgmental language, and how to respond with empathy, active listening, and silence when appropriate.

Participants will examine the impact of suicide on families, communities, and professionals, and learn about high-risk groups such as young people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with a history of mental illness or bereavement. The training provides practical tools such as safety planning, referral processes, and building a local resource list to ensure immediate and appropriate responses to risk. Additionally, it addresses professional boundaries, the risk of vicarious trauma, and how to create and maintain a personalised self-care plan.

By the end of the session, participants will leave with increased confidence, a toolkit of support strategies, and a greater understanding of how to contribute to a safer, more informed and compassionate environment around suicide prevention.

A certificate will be issues on completion as proof of attendance and hours.
