Listening 2 U is proud to be an authorised provider of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), the world’s leading suicide first aid workshop, designed to help participants recognise and respond effectively to signs of suicidal risk.

This two-day, interactive and accredited course equips participants with the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to intervene and support individuals experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Since its creation in 1983 by LivingWorks, ASIST has trained over 2 million people worldwide and continues to be updated to reflect the latest research and best practice in suicide prevention.

What is ASIST?

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two-day, evidence-based workshop that teaches participants to:
  • Identify when someone may be at risk of suicide
  • Understand factors that contribute to suicidal thoughts
  • Work collaboratively with the person to develop a safety plan
  • Connect them with ongoing community and professional support

The training provides a practical, structured model that empowers attendees to respond confidently and compassionately in real-world situations.

Who Can Attend ASIST?

Anyone aged 16 or over can attend. You do not need prior experience in mental health or suicide prevention.

ASIST is ideal for:
  • Health and social care professionals
  • Educators and support staff
  • Community workers and volunteers
  • HR and wellbeing teams
  • Anyone who wants to help prevent suicide in their community

What You’ll Learn as an ASIST-Trained First Aider

By the end of the ASIST training, participants will be able to:
  • Recognise invitations for help and signs of suicidal thoughts
  • Understand the reasons for living and dying from the person’s perspective
  • Conduct a safety assessment and create an actionable safety plan
  • Use non-judgmental communication to build trust and connection
  • Recognise barriers to help-seeking and ways to overcome them
  • Apply the LivingWorks suicide intervention model effectively
  • Link individuals to community resources and ongoing support
  • Build confidence in talking about suicide safely and compassionately
