Misogyny in secondary schools is an increasing concern, often shaped by social media, peer dynamics, and everyday language that can be dismissed as “just banter.” However, these behaviours can have a significant impact on young people’s wellbeing, safety, relationships, and engagement in learning.
Beyond the Banter is an interactive, trauma-informed CPD training designed to support teachers, pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, and senior leaders in recognising and responding to misogynistic attitudes and behaviours in school settings.
This training explores the full spectrum of misogyny from subtle gender stereotypes and everyday sexism to more harmful behaviours such as harassment, coercion, and online abuse. It also examines the growing influence of social media, algorithms, and online figures in shaping young people’s beliefs about gender, power, and identity.
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of:
This practical training focuses on building confidence and equipping staff with strategies they can use immediately, including:
Grounded in a person-centred and trauma-informed approach, this training creates a safe, non-judgemental space for staff to reflect on their own experiences, build confidence, and explore a complex issue with curiosity rather than blame. It acknowledges that many young people may already have experienced harm and emphasises the importance of consistent, everyday responses in preventing escalation.
By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident in addressing misogyny in schools, supporting students effectively, and contributing to a culture where all young people feel safe, respected, and able to thrive.
