CPD Training – Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery Awareness (8-Hour Interactive Course)

This full-day, CPD training course offers a comprehensive and engaging introduction to human trafficking and modern slavery in the UK, supporting professionals to recognise, understand, and respond to exploitation in a safe and informed way. Grounded in a trauma-informed and person-centred approach, the training creates a reflective and practical learning environment where participants can build both knowledge and confidence.

Human trafficking and modern slavery are often described as “hidden in plain sight.” This course explores how exploitation can occur across a wide range of settings, including everyday environments such as workplaces, communities, and homes. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the different forms of exploitation, including sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, criminal exploitation (county lines), domestic servitude, and child trafficking, alongside current UK data and emerging trends.

The training also provides an overview of key legal frameworks, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015, and outlines safeguarding responsibilities relevant to a range of roles. Participants will be introduced to referral pathways such as the National Referral Mechanism, helping them understand how to raise concerns appropriately and access support systems.

What You Will Learn
Throughout the day, participants will:
  • Develop awareness of how human trafficking and modern slavery present in the UK
  • Learn to recognise physical, behavioural, and situational indicators of exploitation
  • Understand how to respond safely to disclosures, using non-judgemental and trauma-informed communication
  • Explore barriers to disclosure, including fear, shame, control, and trauma
  • Gain clarity on safeguarding responsibilities and referral pathways
  • Understand the psychological impact of trafficking, including trauma, dissociation, and attachment difficulties
  • Reflect on their role in supporting safety, autonomy, and ethical practice
