What is Counselling?
Counselling is about helping people who want to change some aspects of their thoughts, feelings or behaviour to improve their life, or simply to explore and clarify their thoughts or feelings.
It’s about talking to a properly qualified counsellor who has regular professional supervision.
Coming to your first session can be stressful in itself.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION
Sessions will last for approx 50 minutes. The counsellor won't tell you what to do, give advice or provide solutions to your problems but will listen to you and help you try to find your own answers. Sessions are private and anything you say is confidential unless other wise stated it will be a place where you can freely express your thoughts and feelings without being judged.
The 50 minutes that you spend in the counselling room is a safe place away from other parts of your life. The time between sessions will be yours for reflection.
Person-centered counselling is an effective therapy for a wide range of concerns. These include grief, stress, depression, addiction problems, issues at work, family and personal breakdowns, difficulty with sleeping and relationship problems. In fact person-centred counselling will work for you if you are feeling low, under confident or alone.
If you have persistent negative thoughts, feel under pressure, out of control or simply unsure which way to turn, then this type of counselling can help you.
