Student Counsellor Placements at Listening 2 U

Joining Listening 2 U as a Student Counsellor offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with real clients in a safe, supportive, and professional environment.

Our placements are open to counselling students working with clients aged 16 and above, with occasional opportunities to support younger clients depending on service needs and training level.

We are passionate about supporting the next generation of counsellors and provide structured placements that promote growth, confidence, and ethical practice.

Supporting Your Professional Development

As a student counsellor at Listening 2 U, you’ll benefit from:
  • Access to CPD and training opportunities (offered at a reduced cost)
  • Ongoing support from an experienced supervisory team
  • A structured environment that encourages both professional and personal growth

We have proudly supported colleges, universities, schools and private clients across the UK and have seen many progress into fully qualified, confident practitioners.

Student Counselling Placement Commitment

We ask students to commit to their placement for the duration of their studies and to continue working with clients until sessions naturally conclude.

During your placement, you will:
  • See a minimum of 3 clients per week (subject to client availability)
  • Manage your own diary and arrange client appointments directly
  • Maintain clear boundaries and adhere to Listening2U’s ethical framework

If clients are based locally, we will do our best to match your availability, though this may depend on room and service capacity.

Supervision Requirements

At Listening 2 U, supervision is a core requirement and an essential part of maintaining high standards of care.

Our supervision policy follows professional guidelines to ensure safe, reflective, and ethical practice:
  • 1 hour of supervision per 8 counselling hours, or
  • 1.5 hours of supervision per calendar month, whichever comes first

We may offer free monthly group supervision (placement-related). You may count 30 minutes of this towards your required supervision hours.

All additional supervision must be completed with one of our approved supervisors.

Supervision attendance is non-negotiable. Failure to attend required supervision may result in termination of your placement, as it is a core element of professional responsibility and client safety.

Time Commitment

Students should allow for:
  • A minimum of 3 hours per week for client work
  • An additional 4–5 hours per month to attend group supervision and administrative tasks

Before applying, please ensure you have sufficient time in your weekly schedule to meet these requirements and commit to the placement fully.

Why Choose Listening 2 U for Your Placement?

  • Supportive, trauma-informed environment
  • Access to affordable professional training and CPD
  • Compassionate, experienced supervision team
  • Opportunities for growth and progression into qualified practice

At Listening 2 U, we believe in empowering future counsellors through genuine support, reflective learning, and ethical excellence.
