Gestalt

Gestalt Therapy is a holistic approach that focuses on the whole of an individual’s experience—their thoughts, feelings, and actions—within the context of the here and now. Rooted in the belief that awareness is the key to personal growth and change, this therapy encourages clients to explore what is happening in the present moment.
The word Gestalt comes from German and roughly translates to "whole." Developed in the 1940s by Fritz Perls, Gestalt Therapy emphasizes the integration of mind, body, and soul, helping individuals become more fully aware of themselves.
Therapists using this approach actively encourage clients to increase their self-awareness through a variety of experiential techniques. These may include creative exercises such as working with objects, writing, or role-playing. These "experiments" are collaboratively designed by the therapist and client to bring unconscious patterns into awareness.
While enhancing self-awareness is the central aim, Gestalt Therapy also supports emotional processing and resilience. Influenced by psychoanalytic theory, it focuses on present experiences, helping clients identify and remove blocks that may have originated in the past but are affecting them in the present.
